    Description: 
    A full-length pioneer woman sheathed in a corn stalk. The woman's head and arms are exposed, with the rest of her body blended into a standing stalk of corn. The woman is standing in front of a two panel granite wall, with reeds to her proper left.

    Remarks: 
    The title of the sculpture, and the passage on the plaque is taken from John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath". The sculpture was commissioned by Ed Duling, and was a gift to the State of South Dakota in honor of his wife, his mother, and pioneer women. IAS files contain a related newsclipping from the Rapid City Journal (South Dakota) July 1991.
