Description:
Two separate abstract pieces installed under the covered entrance to the Justice Center. The two pieces seem to reach out to each other. They are hollow inside and were cut from individual sheets of bronze. The pieces were then welded together and polished. One piece is a free-standing upright with a sloping, four-sided base. The other is a horizontal rectangular piece that is flush against a wall. It extends several feet along the wall and wraps around the corner.

Remarks:
IAS files contain a sheet on the sculpture from the Justice Center's information packet which notes that the work is meant to suggest justice, tempered by mercy. "Sentimental scales" is a phrase taken from a poem by surrealist, Robert Desnos. The sculpture was donated to the city by the Cleveland Foundation.
