    Owner:
Curtis Memorial Library, Pleasant Street, Brunswick, Maine 04011
    Remarks:
Commissioned by Captain John Curtis, for whom the library was named, as a memorial to his sister, Miss L. Augusta Curtis, who died in 1916 and left a bequest of $8,721 for the library. The sculpture was originally in a garden dedicated to her mother. At one time, it was removed from the grounds because of vandalism and refurbished and replaced after it was found missing by a Curtis relative. After replacement, it was again moved to make room for the new wing of the library. IAS files contain a related excerpt from Louise R. Helmreich's "A History of the Public Library in Brunswick, Maine," 1976, pg. 35-36.
