    Remarks:
The Edwin Upton Curtis Memorial was originally located at the intersection of Clarendon and Back Streets at the entrance to the Promenade along the Charles River Embankment. Due to the construction of Storrow Drive, the memorial was relocated ca. 1949 to a temporary location on the Charles River Esplanade between the Lotta Fountain and the Oliver Wendell Holmes Memorial. In 1952, Shurcliff and Shurcliff, Landscape Architects, and Ames, Child and Graves, Architects designed the current installation site. IAS files contain excerpts from a 1999 Assessment Report prepared for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts titled "Restoration of Historic Landings Charles River Esplanade" by Mills Whitaker Architects LLC that document the relocation of the memorial.
