Remarks:
British-born journalist Chadwick wrote articles about baseball for the New York Clipper and the Brooklyn Eagle, and in the process developed the newspaper box score to compare performances of each baseball player. The terms and phrases he used in his articles are today part of the language of baseball --assist, base hit, base on balls, cut off, chin music, fungo, white wash, double play, error, goose egg, left on base, and single. Theodore Roosevelt called him the "Father of Baseball."
