An old man knocks at a door with the back of his proper right hand. The man is bald but wears a full beard. He also wears a loose garment covering his waist and legs and tied around his proper right shoulder. His proper left hand holds a fold of garment at his hip. The door has a circular ring for a handle and rivets running along its perimeter. The door is set into a stele.

Adjacent to the sculpture are the grave markers for deceased Bunnell family members. Two bronze plaques affixed to either side of the base were stolen; they were replaced with polished granite insets.
