    Description:
The polished marble figure of a classical female stands atop the pediment of a classical temple crypt. She wears drapery and has long hair, holding a cross in her proper right hand, a stick or cane in her proper left hand. The crypt is pink marble in large cut bricks, with Roman pillars of white stone flanking the lattice-covered, Art Deco style front doors (iron or copper), three pillars on each side. Pillars also flank the back wall of the crypt, with a blank plaque set into the rear wall. At the back of the roof of the crypt is a large pink-colored cross. The low terrace in front of the crypt once contained two other classical female figure, now absent, made of granite. They were mounted on platforms flanking the entrance walkway, with urns before them. The crypt is surrounded by a short granite wall with planters at intervals.

    Remarks:
The crypt was built for the Broder family, an Irish immigrant family once prominent in Beloit, Wisconsin. It is not exactly certain which family members are buried there, but may include: Jacob Broder (patriarch), Paul Broder, Catherine Broder, Alice Broder, James Broder, Mary Broder, and Ann Broder Mallems. The figure topping the crypt and the two figures that once stood before it are reported to have cost a total of $10,000. The crypt was willed to Marquette University around 1992, by Alice Broder. It has been the target of vandalism over the years, particularly since the 1950s, and the two figures that were once in front of it are stored in pieces inside the crypt.
IAS files contain transcription of Latin verses on crypt plaques, with English translations; newspaper article from the Beloit Daily News, June 9, 1972, pg. 1, 4, and correspondence from the Beloit Historical Society to the Beloit Daily News, dated May 2, 1972.
