Remarks:
The sculpture is in memory of Archie Brandt and is the first sculpture commissioned for the American Rose Center's sculpture garden. Mr. Brandt was a long time rosarian, exhibiter and lecturer at the Center. It was his request that a memorial be placed in the ARS gardens. The artist states "People who knew him said the birds really came close to him while he worked in his garden. We wanted to show that." Nearby plaque reads: FOR ARCHIE BRANDT/WHO LOVED ROSES AND/THE ROSE CENTER. IAS files contain dedication program; article from American Rose (Feb. 1990); two articles from Shreveport Times: Oct. 22, 1989, and undated; and correspondence of January 12, 1989 from artist.
