Description:
Relief plaque depicts maps of Alaska and eastern Russia. Beneath the islands of the Aleutian Chain are two hands shaking. A sailing ship appears in the lower right corner. Respective emblems of Russia and the United States, the double-headed eagle and the American eagle, appear over the land masses of Russian-Siberia and Alaska. The bronze plaque is mounted on a stainless steel plate, which is mounted on rocky cliff.

Commissioned by the United States Forest Service, this piece marks the site where Vitus Bering landed in 1741. The sculpture is sited near the face of a cave on the uninhabited Kayak Island.
