Remarks:
Sculpture commemorates Andy Appleton, a visually-impaired "explainer" at the Children's Discovery Museum who died in a biking accident in Virginia in 1991 at the age of 24. His parents asked that donations in his honor be sent to the museum, and more than fifty donors contributed to the purchase of the sculpture. The sculpture is "reminiscent of Andy's love of music, the outdoors, and children." The sculpture is designed to be played with children hitting it with their hands.
