    Remarks:
The memorial was given to the Town of Swampscott by the Albree family in memory of G. Norman Albree, an aviation pioneer and member of a group of Swampscott test pilots known as the "Early Birds." In 1917, Albree designed and built the first two monoplanes which changed the trend of aviation construction from biplanes to monoplanes of superior performance. Albree's monoplane was inspired by watching eagles swoop and soar. William Turner created the bronze eagle. IAS files contain a copy of the "One Hundred and Thirty-Sixth Annual Report of the Town Officers Swampscott Massachusetts," dated 1987.
