Remarks:
Edmund H. Moseley was the Wichita area's first trader. Maxley and Moseley built and operated a trading post in 1857 within 200 feet of the marker, catering to hunters, trappers, and Native Americans. In 1865, the Treaty of the Little Arkansas was signed on the site. The marker was erected in 1981 by the Third Grade Class of the 1980-1981 Pleasant Valley Elementary School, and may possibly have been designed by the class. IAS files contain a related except from "Bear Grease, Builders and Bandits," pg. 26-27, which differs from survey and plaque in its spelling of "Mosley."
