    Remarks:
The memorial was erected in 1891 to commemorate the Battle of Liberty Place, an 1874 riot between members of the White League and African Americans. The monument listed the names of the White League members who died in the fight, but until recently did not list the names of African Americans who died in the fighting. Inscription plaques were later added to temper the original significance of the memorial. In 1989, when the memorial was temporarily removed during street repairs, civil rights groups argued unsuccessfully to remove the memorial. The memorial was relocated in 1993 to a site near where the original battle took place. On April 24, 2017 the monument was removed.
One of four New Orleans Civil War era monuments removed in the spring of 2017 under a 2015 City Council vote.
