    Remarks:
The mural was commissioned by the Covenant Mutual Insurance Company for its new headquarters, completed in 1957 or 1958. John D. Alsop, company president at the time, chose the work as "an eclectic study of mankind." Marilyn Monroe was a friend of the artist, and she agreed to walk across the sculpture during its creation in his Long Island studio. Her footprints can be seen on a stairway in the middle of the work. IAS files contain related article from The Hartford Courant, Oct. 26, 1986, pg. C1.
