    Description: 
    An octagonal-shaped fountain basin with a center shaft adorned with three female figures in relief which support two smaller fountain pools. Each of the female figures represents a period in the indigenous civilization of countries south of the Rio Grande. One figure is from the Mayan period, another from the Aztec period, and the third is from the Zapotecan period. Above the figures are two basins decorated with hieroglyphics. Water pours into the octagonal bottom basin from eight serpent heads placed around the middle basin. The fountain is installed in a tiled patio courtyard.

    Remarks: 
    The fountain was modeled and executed by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney who interpreted the architect's design for the piece. The courtyard was originally open at the top, but since 1965 it has had a roof over it due to the installation of central air conditioning.
