A blackfish is carved on the lower end of the totem. Forrest's "The Wolf and the Raven," Seattle, University of Washington Press, 1948, pgs. 128, 131, 133, which gives legend of the eagle and blackfish. The eagle at the top identifies the house group to which the deceased belonged, and the blackfish symbolizes the long narrative of Natishlane, who made the first blackfish. Klawock Totem Pole Park contains twenty-one replicas made from the original totem poles of the Tlingit fishing village of Tuxekan.
