The scene depicts either Beekman or Cliff Street with Saint George's Church in the background behind a row of townhouses on the left. Three carriages travel along the street, and figures stroll along the sidewalk.

Remarks:
The painting, which was executed after the church was torn down in 1868, appears to be based on a drawing by Charles Burton published by Bourne in 1831. The houses are the same, but the stoops and doorways are different, and carriages have been added along the street.
