    Description: 
    An abstract sculpture made up of 7 large trapezoidal shapes, placed at angles to each other in three groups. Shapes reference blocks found in the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu. The piece is designed in modules to permit assembly and dismantling. The piece is painted the color of clay with paint that has been mixed with sand and sawdust to give the appearance of stone. All edges are joined with metal brackets and iron (?) nails that run the length of the edges.

    Gift of Macklowe, Harry, Wolf & Macklowe Co., New York through Helen Gee, Contemporary Art (New York City), 1975.
    Remarks: 
    The sculpture may have been exhibited at Grace Plaza in New York City prior to its purchase and gift to the University of Texas. It was acquired from Helen Gee Contemporary Art in 1975 and was a gift of Harry Macklowe, Wolf & Macklowe Co. Installed at the University, the sculpture originally stood on the plaza in front of the Harry Ransom Center at 21st and Guadalupe Streets, until being moved to its current location in 1979. IAS files contain related article from Arts Magazine, vol. 49, May 1975, pg. 9; and transcription of possible markings on sculpture.
