Description:
Triangular-shaped concrete column faced on two sides with highly-polished granite panels. On the left side is a bronze bas-relief of a fireman. He is depicted from the waist up and is shown in proper right profile. He wears a helmet and holds an axe in his proper right hand. A coiled firehose hangs from his proper right shoulder. Flames rise up behind him. On the right side is a bronze bas-relief of a policeman. He is shown from the waist up in proper left profile. He wears a uniform and cap. He carries a walkie-talkie in his proper right hand. The Long Beach City Hall and Hotel Rivera with a walkway are in the background. The column stands directly on the ground.

Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned by the Firefighters and Police unions and was funded through private donations. Cost of the sculpture was $75,000. Construction work on the sculpture was donated. IAS files contain transcription of nearby commemorative plaque.
