Four figures are taking tea in the elaborately decorated salon of the Palazzo Barbaro, an apartment where the Curtis family lived. Ralph Wormerly Curtis (1854-1922) and his wife, Lisa De Wolfe Colt Curtis (1871-1933) stand together at left, in the background. Mrs. Curtis holds a tea cup and reaches down to a small table on which is a tea tray. Mr. Curtis casually sits on a tabletop, with one hand on his hip. Ralph Curtis's parents, Ariana Wormerly Curtis (1833-1922) and Daniel Sargent Curtis (1825-1908), sit together in the right foreground. Daniel Curtis reads a newspaper while Ariana Curtis sits and looks out toward the viewer. Paintings adorn the walls and chandeliers hang from the ceiling.
