    An interior scene of a monk standing in the Uffizi Gallery, his attention directed toward Titian's painting of the reclining nude "Venus of Urbino." Behind him is a painting depicting a cardinal, who appears to be looking down upon the scene.

    Remarks: 
    When the painting was exhibited at the National Academy's 1873 annual exhibition it was titled "The monk." Later the artist sent a note to the National Academy and referred to the painting as "A Connoisseur."
