Shoddy Mill was built in 1878 on Fort Pond Brook, by J. A. Bowen for the reprocessing of old woolen cloth to make new products. It was also known as Reitzer's (or Rawitser's) Mill.

One of the paintings given to the village schools by Arthur F. Davis. This painting hung in the classroom of Miss Boornazian from the mid-1920s until the precient schools were demolished in the mid-1950s. William O'Connell, Superintendent of Schools (Acton, MA) gave the painting to Acton Memorial Library in May 1971.
