    This portrait is a copy of Benjamin West's self-portrait in the collection of the Royal Academy of Arts in London, and refers to his position as president of the Royal Academy. West is seated in a chair at a desk that is covered in books and papers. A plaster cast of a human torso is on the left side of the desk. In the background is a window through which is Somerset House, the home of the Royal Academy.
