    Description: 
    A portrait of chemist and assayer Thomas Price (1837-1912) seated in his laboratory at work on an experiment, his attention directed toward a beaker in front of him. The narrow laboratory is equipped with cabinets and shelves lined with a variety of scientific instruments, as well as glass test tubes and beakers filled with brightly colored liquids. Price is seen in almost profile, seated at a laboratory table against a wall of windows. The What Cheer House, a popular hotel that was located across the street, is visible through the window at the end of the laboratory.
