    Remarks:
The sculpture cost $5,400. The bronze cast was created using the actual sill logs, hearthstones, and fireplace of the Lincoln Cabin. Architect Thomas E. Hibben oversaw the project. The sculpture was cast in Munich, Germany by Priessmann Bruer & Company for International Art Foundries of New York City. Walter Ritchie supervised the installation of the sculpture. A nearby plaque reads: This symbol of the sills and hearth stones of a pioneer cabin is placed here to mark and set aside this bit of Indiana soil as more hallowed than the rest. Here lived for a time, Abraham Lincoln, and here died his mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln.
Originally, the cabin site memorial consisted of the sculpture and wall, and also a flagstone plaza, benches, and interpretative signs. A bronze and glass display case was at one end of the site for a short time. In the late 1960s the plaza around the wall and the signs were removed. IAS files contain related materials from the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.
