Hammon signed Description:  A series of fifteen historical friezes decorate the facade of the Midwestern United Life Insurance Company (MULIC) headquarters building. The friezes wrap around the top of the one-story structure, depicting the history of Fort Wayne from the Ice Age to the 20th century. The friezes are: 1) Allen County - Birthplace of the Great Lakes, depicting the Midwest covered with glacial ice; 2) Furs - The Gold of the New World, showing a French fur trader and an Indian; 3) The Portage - The Missing Link That Was Found, showing Indians toting canoes across the land link between Maumee River and the Wabash River; 4) First Outpost in the Indiana Wilderness, in which Fort St. Phillippe is depicted; 5) Fort Miamis - Pawn in a War for Empire; 6) Rival Claimants for a Disputed Land, depicting the British and French flags; 7) The Victories of Chief Little Turtle; 8) Anthony Wayne - The Hero of Fallen Timbers; 9) The Dedication of Fort Wayne, October 22, 1794; 10) Landon's Mill - The Beginning of American Private Enterprise at Fort Wayne; 11) The Fort - Midwife to the Birth of a Town; 12) Johnny Appleseed; 13) The Canal and Railroads - Pathways To Growth, depicting the Wabash and Erie Canal, constructed between 1832 and 1843; 14) Progress With Stability - And the Spice of Cultural Awareness; and 15) The Fort Wayne Flag. The building was designed by the Leo A. Daly Company. IAS image files contain an image of only one frieze.
