    Description: 
    A memorial consisting of a large base decorated on two of its sides with relief plaques; one of which depicts the U.S.S. Gloucester sinking the Spanish destroyers, Pluton and Furor on the upper half with an inscription on the lower half; the other relief plaque depicts, on the upper half, one hundred men from Gloucester marching in review before General Maximo Gomez at Matanzas, Cuba, and an inscription on the lower half. The other side of the base is decorated with an emblem representing the Spanish American War veterans. The remaining side is inscribed. The base rests on a pedestal.

    Memorial commemorates the role that Gloucester, Massachusetts played in the Spanish American war; the U.S.S. Gloucester and the nearly 300 men who volunteered from the town. IAS files contain a related article which describes the monument, the dedication ceremony, and the role that the U.S.S. Gloucester played in the war.
