    Description: 
    In the House of Representative, the first of five murals commemorating the history of Massachusetts depicts the June 12, 1630 arrival in Salem of John Winthrop (1588-1649), accompanied by his assistant who carries the Charter of the Massachusetts Bay that was granted by King Charles I in 1629. Standing on the shore waiting to greet Winthrop is John Endecott , future Governor of Colonial Massachusetts. In the background, Winthrop's ship, the Arbella, and other ships are anchored. Men working in the shallow waters of the shore transfer chests of supplies from ship to shore.

    One of five murals in the House of Representatives commemorating the establishment of Massachusetts. The murals were a gift of Speaker of the House Christian Herter and his father, the artist Albert Herter.
