    Description: 
    An abstract sundial with two sets of numbers on the face of the stone, the upper set represent the time in Fort Wayne and the lower set represent the corresponding time in the Fort Wayne sister city of Takaoka, Japan. The sundial is mounted on a circular foundation with a round plaque on the front.

    Remarks: 
    Donated by the Essex Group of United Technologies to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary. Helitec I was dedicated in front of the Performing Arts Center on the first day of the Three Rivers Festival, at the same time a new Japanese rock garden was dedicated there. Its companion piece, Helitec II, was given to Fort Wayne's sister city, Takaoka, Japan, whose citizens gave Fort Wayne the rock garden. Each sculpture reads the time in the city of its placement, as well as that of the corresponding sister city. IAS files contain a related articles from the Fort Wayne News Sentinel, May 29, 1980 and the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, July 18, 1980.
