    (On small plate on outer ring of medallion:) EMILE NORMAN 1988 (On plaque below sculpture:) SALINAS VALLEY SUNBURST/This sculpture by Emile Norman is cast out of earth mixed/with aggregate and epoxy. It depicts the industries and events/of this area. There are four suns indicating year-round/sunshine. The four points of the compass are roots. Around/the periphery are symbols of fruits and vegetables grown/here. It was generously donated to the hospital by/Francis and Rosalie Cislini.
    Description: 
    Round medallion with incised and relief imagery is affixed to the facade of the hospital. The outer circle contains fruits and vegetables grown in Salinas, flowers, a dove, fish and steer's head and a caduceus. The next circle contains a ring of holes. The next circle contains four suns with facial features, to represent the seasons and year-round sunshine in the region. Intersecting the suns are roots which represent the compass points. The innermost circle contains the hospital's logo, a cross form. The predominant colors of the piece are black and earth tones, except for the background of the suns' circle which is white snowflake mosaic.
