Description:
A relief plaque affixed to the side of a boulder that depicts the central figure of a Native-American male, dressed in moccasins and a loincloth, carrying an upside down canoe over his head while stepping onto a rock with his proper left foot. Four birds are depicted in flight over the central figure. In the background a Native-American female figure follows the male figure carrying a papoose on her back. In the background to the left of the central figure is a winding river and river valley with rolling hills in the distance. Clusters of trees and brush flank the central figure on both sides of the relief plaque.

Remarks:
The relief plaque marks the northern terminus of Portage Path, an eight mile terminus between the Cuyahoga & Tuscarawas Rivers, which was used as the headquarters of the surveying party in 1797. General Elijah Wadsworth also established a military post there during the War of 1812. The plaque was placed by the Cuyahoga Portage Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Akron, Ohio.
