    Remarks: 
    Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $45,000 given in 1974 to the City of Miami. The sculpture is a monument to the discoverers and settlers of the New World, and tribute to Miami's heritage. IAS files contain copy of dedication program, which includes the artist's statement about the sculpture.
