Remarks:
The sculpture was created by Emile Birch with assistance from John Hatab and ideas from the students of Gilford Elementary School. Brad Thompson poured the concrete. According to the artist, the sculpture reflects "the mountains of New Hampshire and the peaks on the front of the elementary school building." The artist included the panda bear and the eagle (the school's mascot) as playful elements. IAS files contain a related article from The Citizen (Laconia, NH), June 15, 1993, pg. 3, 10.
