    Description: 
    A pair of eagles mounted atop a pair of columnar bases, each flanking an entrance way. Each bird's talons grip a 10 inch diameter sphere, which rests on a small pedestal, atop each column. Below the eagles, on each column is a medallion containing the official seal of the University. The medallions also include text and bas-reliefs. The bas-relief on the north column displays the University's history through a coat of arms and symbols. The south column's medallion has a bas-relief of Jesus Christ at its center, with an inscribed halo.

    Remarks: 
    The eagles are the official symbols of the University. The motto at the bottom of the medallion of the north column "Ut Omnes Te Cognoscant" (John 13, 3) expresses the purpose of a Niagara education: "That All May Know You." The inscription on Christ's halo on the medallion of the south column, "Evangelizare Pauperibus Misit Me," is the official motto of the Vincentian Fathers who sponsor the University, and is translated as "He sent me to preach the good news to the poor."
