Description:
Abstract sculpture depicts a sea image on one side and a human image on the reverse side. The sea image, of Mermaid, is a representation of the evolution of the human body emerging from the sea.

Remarks:
Gift of Dr. and Mrs. Anton Postl with contributions from the Western Foundation, the Monmouth Independence Community Arts Association and the Oregon Arts Commission. The work was purchased from the sculptor, who finished it in 1960, for $11,000. Dr. Postl, then chair of the Natural Sciences Department, initiated the purchase in 1969. IAS files contain a press release from the College dated May 27, 1986.
