Description:
A uniformed cavalry soldier wearing a cap on his head. He holds a bugle to his lips with his proper right hand, while the proper left arm rests at his side, the hand grasping the handle of a sword. Hanging from his belt on the proper left side is a sword in a sheath. Carved on one side of the tiered, 4 sided base is a laurel wreath crossed with sabers. The back of the monument has a carved staff draped with an American flag, with an eagle on top.

Remarks:
Site is surrounded by 20 granite grave markers, each inscribed with a name, company, and division of those soldiers who died in battle and are buried there. The Merricourt Valley News (Merricourt, ND), Oct. 22, 1909 article discusses the dedication of the site.
