(On back of monument:) ERECTED BY THE OLD SOLDIERS/AND PATRIOTIC CITIZENS/OF WESTON AND VICINITY,/IN MEMORY OF OUR NOBLE/SOLDIER DEAD. (On side of monument, raised:) 1861--1865/WHERE E'ER YOU SLEEP,/COMRADES, GOD REST YOU WELL. Description:
A monument consisting of a figure of a Civil War soldier, dressed in a military uniform comprised of a knee-length jacket and a brimmed cap, standing at parade rest atop an inscribed section while leaning on the barrel of a rifle with the butt resting in front of his feet. The monument is placed atop a widely tapered base and is surrounded by a low iron fence. Four cannons are located nearby to each corner of the base.

Remarks:
Monument was completed at a cost of $962.43. Erected in memory of those soldiers slain in battle and in honor of those women of the Neibling Relief Corps by the old soldiers and citizens of Weston. The cannons located near the monument were secured from the Charleston Navy Yard in Boston, Massachusetts. IAS files contain article from a local church publication which describes the monument's dedication ceremonies.
