Hanry Fayette Given had homes in both New Orleans and Smithland, KY. He travelled the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers extensively. The painting is thought to have been painted by John James Audubon of Henderson, KY because he travelled by boat on both rivers and often paid his passage by painting portraits.
