Remarks:
The memorial originally consisted just of the World War I sculpture, but was updated to commemorate soldiers from subsequent wars. The World War I sculpture was authorized Oct. 4, 1925 by the town council. It was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 30, 1926, on the grounds of the Community House in Midvale. A plaque on the top step of platform, in front of the soldier, reads: DONATED BY THE CITIZENS OF THE/BOROUGH OF WANAQUE/DEDICATED MAY 30, 1926 REDEDICATED NOV 11, 1992. IAS files contain articles from the Paterson Morning Call: May 11, 1926, and June 5, 1926; and a Certification of Appreciation from the Wanaque Veterans Monument Committee.
In 1993, the World War I monument underwent restoration by Charles Trovato (Haskell, NJ), which included dismantling and rebuilding the sculpture; sandblasting the original paint and repainting.
