    Description: 
    A portrait of engineer Joseph B. Strauss, dressed in a thirties-style business suit consisting of cuffed pants, a six-buttoned vest, shirt and tie. He is depicted standing and holding a rolled up blueprint in his proper left arm. The sculpture is placed atop a three-sectioned circular base that is set within a landscaped garden.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was commissioned by Golden Gate Bridge and Highway District. Joseph B. Strauss (1870-1938) was the chief engineer of the Golden Gate Bridge from 1929-1937. The sculpture was originally patinated brown with red-brown undertones. IAS files contain and articles from the San Francisco Chronicle, May 6, 1987 and Feb. 25, 1988, pg. C-1, C-6.
