Description:
Highly decorated marble column. On the front of the column is a medallion with a bas-relief portrait bust of John B. Yates. He is shown in proper left profile. The portrait is framed with a draped cloth. The column stands on a marble base ending in three steps. Bas-relief shields decorate the four sides of the top of the base.

Remarks:
Yates served in the War of 1812, was a state and national legislator and was the first judge in Madison County, NY. The monument is reported to have been imported from France. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Madison County Times, Jan. 26, 1958 and Chittenango-Bridgeport Times, Dec. 5, 1979.
