Prayer, (sculpture). Artist:  Umlauf, Charles, 1911-1994, sculptor. Title:  Prayer, (sculpture). Dates:  1949. Medium:  Terra cotta brick. Dimensions:  Approx. H. 10 ft. x W. 9 ft. Description:  Abstract relief depicting the Madonna and Child. The faces of the mother and child are enveloped by arms which are joined at the top with folded hands. The arms frame the faces in a triangular fashion and emanate from the pages of an open book which is at the bottom of the relief. The triangular pattern is repeated by a second set of arms which appear slightly above the first set. The relief is carved into a terra cotta brick wall and is located above an entrance to a building.
