Dorothy sits on a star and holds a sunflower and basket with her dog, Toto. The Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion are in the foreground, as are the Munchkins, who stand on the yellow brick road. The Wizard and the Good Witch (the Ambassador and his wife), are in the upper right corner. The Wicked Witch of the West rides on her broomstick at the left. The Kansas State motto "Ad astra per aspera" (Latin for "Reach for the stars") stretches across the rainbow. Farm equipment and an airplane (representing Kansas industries) fly throughout the sky.
