Sculpture was funded through the General Services Administration. Plaque below granite base reads: CHTHONODYAMIS/Norwegian Granite/Robert I. Russin/Sculptor/Derived from ancient Greek conception, 'Chthonogynamis' represents the/energy of the earth and mankind's embrace of its dynamic forces. The/elemental powers of nature and the intelligence of man merge into a single/form. Cracking along tectonic lines, the global figure ponders and strives to/contain the awesome energies it has released.
