    Description: 
    An upright, rectangular marker with a bas-relief bust of Georgia Senator Richard B. Russell, 1897-1971, recessed in an upper, square, frame-like area. He has short hair and wears a tie and a wide-lapelled jacket. There are inscriptions on the front of the marker below the relief, and lengthy inscriptions on the back of the marker. The entire piece is mounted on a short, rectangular base.

    Remarks: 
    Commissioned by the Russell Dedication Committee. Richard Russell was a renown Georgia politician who had a long political career and was the youngest governor in the history of Georgia. Sculpture is located at a dam that was named after him in recognition for his efforts. IAS files contain full transcription of inscription on back of sculpture. IAS files contain a dedication brochure for the dam, which includes a related section on the sculpture. Unpublished archival materials are on file with the Elberton Granite Association Museum (Elberton, Georgia).
