Description:
A Civil War soldier stands at parade rest dressed in a knee-length overcoat with a cape. Both hands hold the barrel of a rifle, the butt of which rests on the ground in front of his proper right foot. He carries a cartridge box on his proper right side. The sculpture is mounted on a short shaft set upon a tiered base.

Remarks:
The sculpture was installed by Captain Fancher Post 310, Grand Army of the Republic, the Women's Relief Corps 156 and Senator Albert T. Fancher in memory of the soldiers and sailors who served during the Civil War. The sculpture was purchased from Frank Forness of Salamanca, New York for $2,000. It was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 30, 1911. IAS files contain a related excerpt from B. J. Dorsey's "History of the Town of Leon," 1958, pg. 35.
