Description:
A massive block of granite carved with relief images of the Nobska Lighthouse and a whaling vessel (on the left side) and a farmer with a horse-drawn plow (on the right side). The back of block is carved with Falmouth 1688, the date of Falmouth's incorporation, and Suckanesset 1602, the date of the first settlement and Falmouth's Native-American name meaning "land where black shells are found." The sculpture rests on six slabs of West Falmouth granite.

Remarks:
The sculpture started as proposal for the Falmouth Tricentennial with support from the local arts council and donations, but was completed after the Tricentennial celebration due to a shortageof funding. The artist based her design on the Falmouth town seal which symbolizes the early economy of Falmouth. IAS files contain a newspaper article from The Enterprise (Falmouth, MA), June 22, 1990.
