Description:
Figure of a Confederate cavalryman stepping forward on his proper right foot. His proper left leg is bent with only the toe of his proper left foot touching the plinth. He holds a sword pointing down in his proper right hand, while his proper left hand touches his belt. He wears a uniform consisting of a brimmed hat, hip-length jacket, trousers, knee-high boots, and belt with "CSA" buckle. The soldier stands atop an elaborate granite base with a relief of three flags and two stacks of cannon balls on the front. The proper left side of the base also has a relief of a flag. The bottom of the base is tiered. Around the monument is a fence.

Mullins Company, "The Blue and the Gray, Statues in Stamped Copper and Bronze," Cleveland, OH: Caxton Company, 1913, pg. 18, 70 which contains illustrations of this monument (catalog number 4429); and Covington Leader (Covington, TN), May 31, 1895, which discusses the dedication ceremony. For a related article see Civil War Centennial Commission of Tennessee, "Directory of Civil War Monuments and Memorials in Tennessee," Nashville, 1963, pg. 72. W. H. Mullins Company created the statue; Peter-Burghard Stone Company created the monument. The cost was two thousand dollars, fence and landscaping cost two hundred dollars. Funded by the Tipton County Confederate Monument Association. At the time of the 1992 Save Outdoor Sculpture survey plans were being made by the local Sons of Confederate Veterans Chapter to restore the missing hand and sabre.
