The 910 men on the United States side were led by General William Henry Harrison. The idea for the monument originated May 1, 1891 at a meeting of the Grand Army Posts of Lafayette and Battle Grand. The monument was designed by McDonell & Son; the concrete foundation constructed by the Evans Brothers. George Rackel & George Geckler, employees of McDonnell & Son oversaw the contract and installation. John H. Mahoney was sculptor. The monument was dedicated on the anniversary of the Battle of Tippecanoe. IAS files contain transcription of names on plaques and copy of article from the Lafayette Daily Courier, Nov. 7, 1908. The newsclipping is also on file at the Tippicanoe County Historical Association library. For additional information see Alva O.
