Inscription:  (Around perimeter of upper front of base, incised:) WAR DEAD OF SWAIN COUNTY (On front left side of base:) WORLD WAR I/(List of names follows) (On front center of base:) WORLD WAR II/(List of names follows) (On front right side of base:) WORLD WAR II CONTD/(List of names follows)/KOREAN WAR/(List of names follows)/VIETNAM WAR (On base:) "Greater Love Hath No Man Than This, That A Man Lay Down, His Life For His Friends" St. John 15-13 signed Description:  A figure of a World War II soldier, dressed in a military uniform, consisting of helmet, shirt, belt, and pants that are tucked into laced boots, stands with his proper left foot placed atop a rock. The soldier places his proper left hand upon his knee and with his proper right hand grasps a strap that is slung over his proper right shoulder, supporting a rifle. The statue is placed atop a multisided base and located within a raised garden area.
